Middle School Students Find the Right Fit at Extracurricular Fair

If a student at Wantagh Middle School is looking for something fun to do after school, they found it at the third annual Extracurricular Fair on Oct. 7. More than 200 students attended the event in the gymnasium which showcased about two dozen clubs.
While the club was open to all students, the primary attendees were sixth graders who wanted to get a sense of the exciting offerings at their new school. They could explore activities that focused on art, community service, cooking, gaming, science, technology and more. Club advisers and eighth grade club leaders were at each table to share information and answer any questions. There were plenty of hands-on demonstrations, as well, as participants could play chess or drive a robot. Each table also had a QR code that students could scan to learn more.
“I liked that you could try all of these different clubs,” sixth grade Marcus Ganitis said, adding that he is excited to get involved in afterschool activities.
Wyatt Amoroso, a sixth grader, noted that clubs are a great way to meet people and make new friends.
Assistant Principal Rachel Quattrocchi said the event was again a success, as she heard from many students that they found at least one club they want to join. She noted that several clubs have been created based on student feedback, and is proud that the offerings reflect the interests of the student body.
