The Wantagh School District will be holding its Annual Budget Vote and Board of Education Election on Tuesday, May 18, 2027.  On that date the voters of the school district will vote on the 2027-28 School District Budget proposal which has been formulated by the Board of Education and District Administration. 

A Budget Hearing on this vote will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2027 following the Business Meeting at 8 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.

There will be one (1) open seat on the Board of Education this year.  The terms will run from July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2030.  Information for those wishing to be candidates for the open seat is found below.

Qualifications for Candidacy on the Board of Education:

Those who run for membership on the Board of Education must:

• Be a citizen of the United States of America
• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Be able to read and write
• Be a resident of the Wantagh School District continuously for one (1) year

Nominating Petitions:

Candidates must submit a petition to the School District Clerk signed by at least forty-five (46) qualified district voters (2% of the total number who voted in the 2026 Annual Budget Vote and Election).  The petitions must include the following:

• Candidate’s Name and Residence
• Signature and residences of those signing the petition

Completed Nominating Petitions must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2027 at the District Office.

Voter Qualifications:

To be eligible to vote in school district elections a person must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the election
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be a registered voter in school or general elections

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2027

Voting will take place at the following locations:

1. South of Sunrise Highway - Mandalay Elementary School
2. North of Sunrise Highway, West of Wantagh Parkway – Forest Lake Elementary School
3. North of Sunrise Highway, East of Wantagh Parkway – Wantagh Elementary School

Voter Registration:

Qualified voters may register any school day at the Administrative Offices between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The deadline to register is May 13, 2027.  This registration will only allow registrants to vote in the School District Election.

An additional voter registration is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2027 at the Administrative Offices from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Application Procedure for Absentee/Early Mail Ballots:

Absentee and early mail voting will be permitted in accordance with Sections 2018‑a and 2018-e of the Education Law. All applications for absentee and early mail ballots may be applied for at the Office of the School District Clerk.

An application for an absentee ballot, on a form to be provided by the School District Clerk, shall be made to the School District Clerk. Such application must be received at least seven (7) days before the election if the School District Clerk is to return the absentee ballot to the applicant by mail. If the applicant or their agent is to personally pick up the absentee ballot, the application must be received by the School District Clerk at least one (1) day before the election.

An application for an early mail ballot, on a form to be provided by the School District Clerk, shall be made to the School District Clerk. For any early mail ballot applications received at least seven (7) days prior to the election, the District Clerk shall mail an early mail ballot to each qualified voter who requested that such an early mail ballot be mailed to the address set forth on the submitted application no later than six (6) days before the election. If an applicant or their agent delivers an application for an early mail ballot after May 13, 2026 and not later than the day before the election, the District Clerk shall deliver the early mail ballot when the applicant and/or their agent appears in the District Clerk’s office.

No absentee or early mail voter's ballot shall be canvassed, unless it shall have been received in the Office of the School District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., Prevailing Time, on Tuesday, May 18, 2027, the day of the election.

El Distrito Escolar de Wantagh celebrará su Votación Presupuestaria Anual y la Elección de la Junta de Educación el martes 18 de mayo de 2027.  En esa fecha, los votantes del distrito escolar votarán sobre la propuesta presupuestaria del distrito escolar 2027-28, que ha sido formulada por la Junta de Educación y la Administración del Distrito.

Una Audiencia Presupuestaria sobre esta votación se celebrará el jueves 6 de mayo de 2027 tras la reunión de negocios a las 20:00 horas en el Auditorio del Instituto de Secundaria.

Este año habrá un (1) puesto vacante en la Junta de Educación.  Los mandatos estarán abiertos desde el 1 de julio de 2027 hasta el 30 de junio de 2030.  A continuación se encuentra información para quienes deseen ser candidatos para el escaño vacante.

Requisitos para la candidatura en la Junta de Educación:

Quienes se presenten para formar parte de la Junta de Educación deben:

• Sé ciudadano de los Estados Unidos de América
• Tener al menos dieciocho (18) años
• Saber leer y escribir
• Ser residente del distrito escolar de Wantagh de forma continua durante un (1) año

Peticiones de nominación:

Los candidatos deben presentar una petición al Secretario del Distrito Escolar firmada por al menos cuarenta y cinco (46) votantes cualificados del distrito (el 2% del total que votó en la Votación y Elección Presupuestaria Anual de 2026).  Las peticiones deben incluir lo siguiente:

Registro de votantes:
