Propositions

The ballot will contain multiple propositions, as well as a section for the election of Trustees to the Board of Education. Details of each proposition are listed below.

  • Proposition One is the school district budget. Details about the proposed expenditures, revenue, tax cap and other information can be found on this web page.

  • Proposition Two requests community consideration to spend $1,740,000 from the district’s capital reserve fund for the purpose of:

    • rooftop HVAC unit replacement at Wantagh High School auditorium
    • partial roof replacement at Wantagh High School
    • purchase and installation of field lighting at the Wantagh High School turf field

The actual proposition language is as follows:

“Shall the Board of Education be authorized pursuant to Section 3651 of the Education Law to expend an amount not to exceed One Million Seven Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars ($1,740,000) (including accrued interest) from the Capital Reserve Fund established by voters of the School District at the annual meeting held on May 21, 2024 (“Reserve Funds”) for the following projects: rooftop HVAC unit replacement at the Wantagh High School auditorium, partial roof replacement at Wantagh High School, and the purchase and installation of field lighting for the Wantagh High School turf field, all of the foregoing to include site improvements, furnishings, equipment, apparatus, machinery, demolition and other incidental work or improvements required in connection therewith, and to expend from the Reserve Funds therefor, including preliminary costs and costs incidental thereto an amount not to exceed the total estimated cost of One Million Seven Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars ($1,740,000) (including accrued interest); such costs of the components of the capital improvements/projects may be reallocated among such components/projects as the Board of Education shall determine to be in the best interest of the District.”

  • The district has undertaken a multi-year review of the property at 1865 Beech Street. This property had been leased to a day care provider since the 1980’s. However, that lease ended in 2024 and since then the Board of Education has held public meetings to deliberate on the fate of this property. Ultimately, it was decided that the building would not meet the district’s current or future needs and required substantial capital investment. As a result, the decision was made to place a proposal on the May 2026 ballot to sell the property to a developer who has indicated their intent to build two one-family homes on the property.
