Empowering Educators From Day One in Wantagh

A three-day summer workshop for new teachers in the Wantagh School District kicked off Aug. 26 in the middle school library with a warm welcome from the administrative team. New teacher orientation featured 17 participants, including eight probationary teachers and five leave replacements, as well as a handful of faculty who joined the district later on in the previous school year.
Superintendent John McNamara greeted the new teachers and spoke of the district’s rigorous hiring process to ensure that Wantagh’s educators are the best of the best. He also noted the tremendous support they will receive to help them succeed. Beyond the orientation program, first-year faculty are assigned mentors, attend monthly new teacher workshops and benefit from instructional coaching.
The new teacher program included overviews of the academic program, instructional technology and student support services. There was also a bus tour of the district and meetings with building administrators.
