The first class of a new decade took their first steps in Wantagh High School on Aug. 21. Freshmen orientation for the Class of 2030 took place, featuring tours of the building and different informational sessions.

Incoming ninth graders learned about academic offerings, extracurricular activities and technology resources. Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone and Assistant Principal Dr. Christopher Widmann delved into the details like the structure of the school day and policies for electronic devices, lunch and student IDs. They also highlighted many of the facilities updates happening around the school including a fully renovated library that is set to open in the fall.  

There was a session with upperclassmen who encouraged ninth graders to get involved in clubs and athletics, and also discussed organization and time management. Other seasoned students led tours of the building, showing important locations like the auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium, main office and music rooms. Guidance counselors also met with students to discuss the support they provide throughout high school. 

A club fair in the cafeteria allowed the new students to explore a wide range of extracurricular activities. They learned about different options in art, community service, science, theater and more, and spoke with club officers.
