The Wantagh Board of Education honored championship teams and standout athletes from the spring season at the July 7 meeting.

Superintendent John McNamara noted that it was a historic season, with two Long Island championship teams and other playoff qualifiers. The girls flag football team, in its inaugural season, advanced to the county semifinals. 

Boys lacrosse captured its third consecutive Nassau County title followed by its second Long Island championship in row. Softball captured its first Long Island title in 36 years and advanced to the state semifinals.

Jennifer Keane, director of physical education, health and athletics, announced the players and coaches from both title-winning teams and presented them with certificates. She also recognized athletes from other spring teams who achieved individual accolades, such as All-County, All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete honors.
