AP Symposium Provides Peer Friendly Space to Present
The inaugural AP Symposium took place on December 18 at Wantagh High School under the direction of AP Research teacher, Heather Naughton. Over 100 students from John F. Kennedy High School, Sanford H. Calhoun High School, Wellington C. Mepham High School, Babylon High School and the Wantagh Science Academy participated in this day-long event.
After a continental breakfast, welcome, and layout of the day, students quickly separated into groups before heading to their assigned classroom to present their proposed research.
Students shared their research in front of their student peers receiving constructive criticism from both the audience and Wantagh High School student facilitators who have finished their AP Capstone program.
“The Symposium was an amazing opportunity for students and teachers to come together and learn from each other,” says Ms. Naughton. “We were so proud of the tremendous work of the Wantagh Capstone students and Student Leaders - they continue to set the bar for excellence both within the district and on Long Island.”
