Margaret Gates Designated National Merit Finalist

The Wantagh High School administration is pleased to announce that senior Margaret Gates was named one of the nation’s 15,000 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program competition. As a finalist, Margaret has received a Certificate of Merit and will soon learn whether she has been chosen as a Merit Scholar designee.

Margaret entered the competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of semifinalists like Margaret represents 1% of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

To become one of 7,600 scholarship winners, Margaret will be judged on her academic record, information about the high school’s curriculum and grading system, her PSAT/NMSQT Selection index core, an official recommendation and information about her contributions and leadership in school and the community and a Finalist essay.

The Wantagh School District congratulates Margaret on her designation as a finalist and wishes her much success in the next level of the competition.
