Wantagh El 5th Grade Graduates Reminded to Work Hard, Be Humble, Get Involved

Wantagh Elementary School ’s 5th grade 2026 graduates took their final walk across the high school auditorium stage on June 25 for their moving-up ceremony in front of a full and energetic crowd ready to cheer on their favorite graduate.
Two by two, students walked to their seat as “Pomp and Circumstance” played followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by six students. Following a few acknowledgements of special guests, Ms. Cavallo directed the students in singing “Unwritten” whose lyrics remind students to live their lives with arms wide open and today is where your book begins.
Prior to each student’s name being called, Assistant Principal Mrs. Ianuzzi congratulated 5th grade teacher Ms. Weiss on her upcoming retirement and dedicating her career to the students of Wantagh.
As Ms. Barrett, Ms. LeRoy, Ms. Gitman/Ms. McKeefrey, Ms. Leimbach/Ms. Barodin, Ms. Sweezy, and Ms. Weiss stepped to the podium to announce their student’s names, an occasional cheer was heard from family members before a thunderous applause filled the auditorium celebrating all graduates.
Mrs. Ianuzzi addressed the students sharing how proud she is of each student and how they have learned what it means to be responsible and respectful people – good citizens of their school and community.
“I’d like to share some advice that was shared with me,” said Mrs. Ianuzzi. “Work hard, be humble, smile, get involved, and follow the golden rule. Be willing to keep on learning from your teachers, coaches, families, and friends. Be helpful, keep reading, clean your rooms, practice your instruments, and be good to each other.”
After the ceremony, students received their certificates from their teachers before being reunited with their families and refreshments sponsored by the Wantagh Elementary PTA.
