Senior is U.S. Presidential Scholars Nominee
Wantagh High School senior Alexander Michaelides was selected as a candidate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, sponsored by the United States Department of Education. He earned the nomination with an exceptional SAT score.
Alexander scored a 1590 out of 1600 points on the SAT. His near-perfect score was more than 500 points above the national average. Earlier this year, he was named a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program based on his high PSAT score.
In high school, Alexander has challenged himself academically by taking six Advanced Placement courses. He also self-studied AP Computer Science, which is his primary area of interest. In college, Alexander plans to major in computer science and aspires to a career in cybersecurity.
Alexander’s interest in computer science began in second grade. He tutors elementary school students in computer coding through a private company. At Wantagh High School, he is a member of the Science Olympiad team and has photographed numerous sporting events.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize many of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for their accomplishments in multiple areas including academic success, leadership and service.
“We are incredibly proud of Alexander’s recognition as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholarship program,” Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone said. “He is an excellent reflection of the key qualities that we hope to instill in our students – driven, reflective, creative and resilient.”
