Students, Staff Find Joy on Wantagh’s First Day

With the flip of the calendar, the hallways of Wantagh’s five schools were bustling again. The new school year began on Sept. 1 as students returned to class after their summer vacations.

Administrators, teachers and board of education trustees greeted arriving students at the entrances. Outside of the elementary schools were photo stations, and parents took lots of first-day photos there and in front of the school signs in between the rain drops.

At the high school, Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone and Assistant Principal Nick Pappas exchanged plenty of fist bumps with students as they walked into the lobby and headed to their first period classes. Sixth and seventh graders at the middle school got to use lockers for the first time, with that pandemic restriction lifted. Elementary students spent some time unpacking their supplies and organizing their desks while admiring their new classrooms, which teachers decorated before the school year began to spark joy.
