Turning Pages Together for World Read Aloud Day
Word Read Aloud Day bridged generations of readers in the Wantagh School District on Feb. 4. Elementary school students welcomed book-bearing guests both virtually and in-person throughout the day.
Several middle school and high school classes read children’s books via Google Meet to their younger peers at Forest Lake, Mandalay and Wantagh elementary schools. Administrators also served as in-person guest readers. Officers from Wantagh High School’s National English Honor Society spent the day touring the district as they read to kindergarten, first and second grade classes.
“World Read Aloud Day reminds us about the importance of hearing the written word read aloud, and Wantagh’s students truly embrace this celebratory day,” Director of Humanities Dr. Julie Rosslee said. “Having the middle and high school students as well as teachers and administrators partner with the elementary classes in reading aloud texts of their choice was once again a well-received and inspiring experience for all.”
