Forest Lake Scientists Make Some Cool Discoveries
Second graders at Forest Lake Elementary School pondered the differences between solids and liquids, as they conducted an experiment with ice cubes. It was part of a science unit on properties of matter.
Students worked in pairs and each group received one ice cube. They explored the impact of heat on the ice cubes, which simply came from the room temperature and their own hands. Just like real scientists, students discussed their observations and used the data to support their claims on whether ice is a solid or a liquid.
