Middle School Ambassadors Ease Nerves of Incoming Students

Bridging over to middle school doesn’t just begin when 5th graders walk across the stage next month. The early stages of bridging officially begins when Wantagh Middle School Ambassadors make their way over to each elementary school to share all of the exciting things to come next school year for the incoming class of 2032.
Each year, a select number of students from Wantagh Middle School take a trip to the elementary schools to explain how middle school works sharing their personal transition experience easing the nerves of 5th graders across the district.
One of the biggest changes for incoming middle school students is learning how to locate and lock their lockers. One tip from an ambassador was taking the necessary materials for 2-3 classes at a time and not having to go to the locker in between each class which takes up valuable time between bells.
Another exciting bit of information was learning that after eating lunch, recess is still a daily activity and they now have a choice to go outdoors, to the library, or to the game room as part of their lunch period.
The choice of clubs greatly increases leaving something for everyone to try. There is literally something for everyone to enjoy.
Student ambassadors are sixth, seventh and eighth graders who were nominated by their teachers for being good representatives of the school.
The Wantagh Middle School Ambassador program is overseen by teacher Corrie Harris and psychologist Tracy Zelenetz.
