Dear Parents and Residents,
I would like to express my appreciation to the Board of Education for their confidence in my ability to assume the responsibilities of Acting Superintendent of Schools during this time. As an educator and administrator in the district since 1977, I can attest to the fact that providing a quality education to all students has always been our number one priority. Please be assured that our goals remain the same.
Our students have settled in and the year is off to a good start. In January 2011, the New York State Department of Education adopted the Common Core Learning Standards. All school districts in the state are required to implement these standards beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. I am pleased to report that our district is in compliance. Our K-8 English language arts and math curriculum are fully aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards and our staff has received the necessary professional development and instructional training needed to introduce the new standards into the classrooms.
Special congratulations to high school senior Belinda Liu,who has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and high school junior Patrick Constant, who has been chosen to represent Wantagh schools at the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Conference in Rochester later this year. Patrick, who is a classically trained tenor and a member of the concert choir and vocal jazz ensemble, will be performing with other exceptionally talented students.
Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you at the numerous student events planned for this school year.
