VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE STUDENTS SAVOR THE FLAVOR OF SUCCESS

The high school’s college-level Virtual Enterprises International firm, Coffee Cubed, won silver medals in the company branding, employee handbook, e-commerce website, impact marketing and video commercial categories during the Long Island VE Trade Show, held at LIU Post on Jan. 9.

Coffee Cubed provides a rechargeable custom thermos that heats content to any temperature in two minutes or less. Coffee cubes are placed in the thermos tray and dissolve into the water, making a perfect cup of coffee. The cubes are perishable and do not cause pollution like k-cups.

The district implemented the VEI program during the 2016-2017 school year, which allows students to develop a virtual business from concept to implementation. The class is a real work environment in which the students assume business responsibilities based on their backgrounds and interests and the classroom simulates the atmosphere of a company. As employees of a virtual business, students are held accountable for the company’s performance. They conduct market research, develop a business plan, design an e-commerce website, pay wages and taxes, maintain 401(K) plans and draft an annual report. In addition, students have the opportunity to interact with 5,000 other VE firms from school districts locally, nationally and internationally.

The district congratulates the students on this outstanding accomplishment and much success in future competitions.
