William Sigler, a sixth grader at Wantagh Middle School, was the winner in the school-level competition for the National Geography Bee, held on Jan. 9. He will now take a test to qualify for the opportunity to participate in the state finals. Eighth grade student Madeline Rose placed second in the competition.

Prior to the holiday break, preliminary rounds were conducted in all classes, and 25 students qualified to compete in the schoolwide finals on Jan. 10. Under the direction of social studies teacher David Cippoletti and District Supervisor of Social Studies Christopher Widmann, competitors were tested in a challenging contest on their knowledge of U. S. cities and states, historic places, continents and U.S. and world geography.

The district congratulates William on this academic achievement and wishes him the best of luck in his advancement in the competition.
