Wantagh Middle School students Margaret Gates (grade 8), Jennifer Rosen (grade 7) and Evan Thole (grade 6) were winners of the school’s annual Memorial Day Speech/Essay Contest. Margaret was invited to read her winning entry during the Memorial Day ceremony, held at Wantagh American Legion Post 1273, while the winners, second- and third-place winners were invited to walk in the community’s annual Memorial Day parade.
During the contest, the students were required to write an essay that answered the question, “Why is it important to keep Memorial Day a national holiday?” The three top writings were chosen from each class.
The Wantagh Middle School faculty also congratulates the following second- and third-place winners:
Eighth Grade: Brendan McKenna (second place) and Jack Bruno (third place)
Seventh Grade: Julianna Rose (second place) and Vincent D’Amore (third place)
