Eighth-grader Aidan Araoz was the winner of the school-level competition for the National Geography Bee.
Prior to the holiday break, preliminary rounds were conducted in all classes and 30 students qualified to compete in the schoolwide finals on Jan. 20. Under the direction of social studies teacher David Cippoletti and District Supervisor of Social Studies Christopher Widmann, competitors were tested in a challenging contest on their knowledge of U.S. cities, historic places, continents and world geography.
After the school-level competition, Aidan took a test for a chance to participate in the state finals.
The National Geographic Bee is not only designed to review and test students’ knowledge of world geography, but to motivate their interest in the history and culture of exciting countries and continents.
The district congratulates Aidan on this academic achievement.
