WANTAGH WARRIOR JOURNALISTS CAPTURE PRESS AWARDS

Wantagh Warrior senior journalists garnered three Quill Awards at Adelphi University’s annual Press Day, held on Feb. 26. Co-Editor in Chief Juliet Watstein won third place in the best arts review category, while Co-Editor in Chief Jenna Miller won an honorable mention in the most outstanding reporter category. Features editor Delaney Skelton also won third place in the best news article category for a poignant article on how the Wantagh Theatre group honored the late graduate John Michael Martin by performing “Rent,” his favorite musical.

During the annual Press Day event, students attended lectures by renowned writers about important issues facing contemporary journalists. Students from Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as New York City, attended the 2020 event which focused on the topic of the legal issues affecting scholastic media.

In speaking about the strength of the journalism team, Wantagh Warrior adviser Peter Kravitz said Jenna is the seventh Wantagh student to win a most outstanding reporter award in the past 10 years at Press Day. He also noted that Delaney is only the fourth Wantagh student to win in the news article category, a category in which he has entered students every year.
