SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TO COMPETE AT STATE LEVEL

Members of Wantagh High School’s Science Olympiad teams garnered much success at the regional competition, held at Division Avenue High School in Levittown on Feb. 1. Team A placed fourth out of 23 competing teams from across Long Island and earned a spot at the state competition to be held on March 13-14. In addition, Team B members Anjelica Meagher and Amanda Ciarmella won a first-place medal in the Write It/Do It category. 

The annual Science Olympiad Competition includes more than 20 various science events that challenge students to utilize their science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics skills to earn event medals while working with a partner.

The district congratulates the following team members: 

Astronomy – 5th place – Margaret Gates and Tarika Varanasi

Circuit Lab – 2nd place – Tim Ross and Melanie Volz

Detector building – 1st place – Margaret Gates and Joey Streib 

Disease Detectives – 2nd place – Julia Inayan and Athena Yao 

Dynamic Planet – 5th place – Julia Inayan and Justin Reisert 

Experimental Design – 3rd place – Helen Ibrahim, Kevin Pfundstein and Justin Reisert

Fossils – 5th place – Will Hostetter and Tim Ross 

Machines – 5th place – Will Hostetter and Joey Streib

Protein modeling – 3rd place – Abby Colaco, Julia Froese and Athena Yao

Sounds of Music – 4th place – Will Hostetter and Travis Minutoli

Water quality – 2nd place – Justin Reisert and Tarika Varanasi

Wright stuff – 2nd place – Margaret Gates and Athena Yao
