STUDENT JOURNALISTS CAPTURE SIX ESSPA AWARDS

Under the direction of Peter Kravitz, Wantagh Warrior high school journalists garnered six individual awards during the annual Empire State Scholastic Press Association contest, held at Syracuse University.

The district’s single gold award was received by current senior Nicole Hooker in the sports news category for an article she wrote on last year’s girls soccer team. Grace Anne McKenna won the only silver award for the district in the news story category and is the only Wantagh student-journalist to win an ESSPA award four consecutive years. She is currently attending Boston College and has already been published in the college’s The Heights.

Grace Anne also won an honorable mention awards in sports news, while Angelina Torre received an honorable mention in review writing.

Mr. Kravitz said The Warrior has a trio of talented editors in chief in Jenna Miller, Juliet Watstein and Grace Kane and that he looks forward to the writers’ great work this school year.
