Wantagh High School senior leaders dressed in clothing to reflect different genres of music to set the theme for this year’s annual Mix It Up Lunch, held in the cafeteria on Oct. 30.
This national event was first established by the Southern Poverty Law Center and now encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries to create an environment of tolerance. The high school’s goal was to encourage students not to segregate themselves during lunchtime and to make new friends and acquaintances.
Freshmen were invited to tables decorated according to country, classical, hip hop, rock and other music genres and encouraged to mingle with upperclassmen. In addition to sharing lunch, there were games and prizes distributed throughout the lunchtime chatter.
Through a commitment to educational excellence in a secure, supportive environment, the Wantagh Public Schools shall inspire students to develop a strong sense of individual worth and respect for others, to become lifelong learners and independent thinkers, and to fulfill themselves as concerned citizens in a diverse world.
