High school freshmen abandoned their classrooms for the day on Oct. 17 to participate in the second annual Freshman Field Day.
Out on the field and tennis courts, the ninth graders cycled through eight team-building activities including Hang the Laundry, All Dressed Up, Find Your Footwear, Hula Your Hoop and more. Also included was a mindfulness activity hosted by Andrew Ahr of Body and Brain. Upperclassmen volunteered to run the activities and motivate participants.
High school social worker Iris Kline explained, “The purpose of the day was to build a sense of connectedness and camaraderie among the freshmen class as they begin their high school journey.”
At the completion of the activities, the freshmen were provided a lunch of pizza, provided by the Wantagh 6-12 Association, and ice cream, provided by Wantagh United Teachers.
Through a commitment to educational excellence in a secure, supportive environment, the Wantagh Public Schools shall inspire students to develop a strong sense of individual worth and respect for others, to become lifelong learners and independent thinkers, and to fulfill themselves as concerned citizens in a diverse world.
