A perfect fall afternoon and community pride was the backdrop for Wantagh’s annual homecoming parade and game, held on Oct. 19. Fun-Filled activities started with a Friday afternoon pep rally, during which the district’s sport teams and homecoming court were introduced.

Prior to the Saturday game against the Bethpage Eagles, worldwide city-themed floats were led down Wantagh Avenue to the football field that included the marching band, cheerleaders, homecoming court, grand marshal which was the girls volleyball team, and members of the Wantagh board of education and central administration.

During the halftime show, the cheerleaders motivated the already upbeat fans and the marching band gave a flawless performance of Earth, Wind and Fire tune favorites. Seniors Michael Rodin and Olivia Tomeo were then crowned king and queen to the delight of the crowd, with Matthew Drago and Kate Padgett as first runners-up, and Jack Padula and Nicole Hooker as second runners-up. The juniors also won the float competition with their Las Vegas-themed float, with the seniors (New York City) coming in second and sophomores (Paris) and freshmen (Athens) coming in third and fourth, respectively.

The Warriors lived up to their reputation and name, claiming a 21-20 victory against the Eagles.
