WANTAGH MIDDLE SCHOOL WELCOMES INCOMING SIXTH GRADERS
There was no hindering the excitement of incoming sixth grade students and their parents, who attended the middle school’s sixth grade orientation and picnic, held on Aug. 29.
After picking up their schedules at the front door, the students attended a brief meeting with new principal Anthony Ciuffo, who gave them the rundown on the school’s expectations. This year, the students were divided into black and gold teams, but Mr. Ciuffo explained that all students are “Warriors,” who will have the opportunity to collectively work together and participate in friendly academic competitions throughout the school year. He also assured them that there are adults in the building ready to welcome them.
After their individual team meetings, the students tried opening their lockers and located their classrooms in preparation for the first day of school on Sept. 3. They also attended games on the school lawn and ate pizza together, provided by Pies on Wheels.
“The orientation was a wonderful way for the students to start forming relationships with their peers in a fun setting,” Mr. Ciuffo said.
Through a commitment to educational excellence in a secure, supportive environment, the Wantagh Public Schools shall inspire students to develop a strong sense of individual worth and respect for others, to become lifelong learners and independent thinkers, and to fulfill themselves as concerned citizens in a diverse world.
