NANCY O’CONNOR NAMED BUSINESS EDUCATION TEACHER OF THE YEAR

The District is proud to announce that the Long Island Business Teachers Association has named middle and high school business teacher Nancy O’Connor as the Business Education Teacher of the Year. Ms. O’Connor was recognized during the annual awards ceremony attended by more than 150 Long Island teachers and students, held at the Wind Watch and Golf Country Club in Hauppauge on May 22.

LIBTA President Stacy Cabrera described Ms. O’Connor as a “superwoman” teacher whose lessons “never fail to be updated and are consistent with the changing times.”

Wantagh High School business teacher Christine Compagnino said, “Take a look at Nancy’s desktop calendar and it will validate her widespread dedication, commitment and passion for her profession.”

A 1987 graduate of Wantagh High School, Ms. O’Connor has served the district since 1991. She currently teaches the eighth-grade business management and college-level Virtual Enterprise International courses. Adviser to the VEI Coffee Cubed team, the students have received silver medals in the areas of company branding, employee handbook, e-commerce website, impact marketing and video commercial during the January trade show. Ms. O’Connor is also adviser to the Entrepreneurial Club, which operates the middle school store. She is the middle school yearbook adviser, computer club adviser and creator and editor of the Wantagh business department’s business newsletter.

Off campus, Ms. O’Connor is LIBTA corresponding secretary and historian and membership director of the New York State Business Teachers Association.

The district congratulates Ms. O’Connor on this professional accomplishment and continued success in her profession.
