It was a day of patriotism for Wantagh Middle School students who were winners in the annual Memorial Day Writing Contest, sponsored by American Legion Post 1273. During the contest, students were required to write an essay that completes the thought, “This Memorial Day, it is more important now than ever to…” The winners were invited to march in the annual community Memorial Day parade and were then recognized at the American Legion Post for their winning essays.
The district congratulates the following student-winners:
First place: Madison Smith, grade 7; Nora Tuscano, grade 8; and Dylan Yannelli, grade 6
Second place: Samantha Magri, grade 6; Mary McKenna, grade 8; and Heather Sheridan, grade 7
Third place: Avery Bogacki, grade 6; Sean Hill-Hotz, grade 7; and Katherine Killian, grade 8
