NEW ADMINISTRATION APPOINTMENTS

The Wantagh School District is pleased to announce two administrative changes for the 2019-2020 school year.

With 18 years of dedicated service to the district, Anthony Ciuffo was appointed Wantagh Middle School principal. He replaces Dawn Matrochano, who has announced her retirement at the end of the current school year. Prior to his six-year tenure as Forest Lake Elementary School principal, Mr. Ciuffo served as a teacher, elementary supervisor and Wantagh Middle School assistant principal.

Superintendent of Schools John McNamara said the board of education and central administration felt that Mr. Ciuffo was the perfect leader for the Wantagh Middle School. “Mr. Ciuffo has consistently proven himself to be a passionate, caring, dedicated and student-centered educator,” Mr. McNamara said. “He has a strong understanding of young adolescent children, along with the skill set to bring people together and empower them to become part of a caring, vibrant and engaging school community.”

Additionally, Jessica Zimmer, who has served as elementary supervisor for the past five years,  will replace Mr. Ciuffo as principal of Forest Lake Elementary School. Prior to joining the Wantagh faculty, Ms. Zimmer served 19 years in the Copiague Public School District as an elementary teacher, lead teacher and instructional coach. Mr. McNamara described Ms. Zimmer as a “caring, kind and thoughtful educator.”

“Ms. Zimmer’s understanding of elementary-level best practices and instructional pedagogy make her the perfect next principal of Forest Lake elementary School,” Mr. McNamara said.
