Mandalay students were encouraged to stop and think before logging on to a computer or using social media during a presentation by Nassau County police officer Yolanda Turner. Officer Turner’s resounding message was that once an email, text or social media post has been transmitted, it is permanent.
“Think about what you are writing before you send the message,” Officer Turner said. “Your digital footprint stays with you forever, even when a post has been deleted.”
The students also learned about the dangers of chat rooms, cyberbullying issues and how to use privacy setting to better protect them online. Most importantly, they learned never to give personal information online.
Through a commitment to educational excellence in a secure, supportive environment, the Wantagh Public Schools shall inspire students to develop a strong sense of individual worth and respect for others, to become lifelong learners and independent thinkers, and to fulfill themselves as concerned citizens in a diverse world.
