The district’s elementary school students celebrated the first 100 days of school on Feb. 12 with English language arts, mathematics and art activities. Students and staff at Forest Lake, Mandalay and Wantagh elementary schools demonstrated their enthusiasm for this momentous occasion by wearing T-shirts decorated with 100 items and dressing up as 100-year-olds.
At Wantagh Elementary School, kindergarten teachers read stories about the first 100 days of school. The students also participated in activities which included building structures with 100 Unifix cubes and plastic cups. They also painted 100 gumballs into a picture of a gumball machine and worked their bodies while performing 100 repetitions of a variety of exercises. They counted by one, fives and 10s to reach the number 100 and placed 10 scoops of ice cream on a construction paper cone to demonstrate their understanding of the number 100.
Through a commitment to educational excellence in a secure, supportive environment, the Wantagh Public Schools shall inspire students to develop a strong sense of individual worth and respect for others, to become lifelong learners and independent thinkers, and to fulfill themselves as concerned citizens in a diverse world.
