WINNING AMERICAN HISTORY ESSAYISTS

The Jerusalem Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized high school junior Keriann Steingruebner and middle school seventh grader Jenna Rackley as New York State winners of the 2016-2017 DAR American History Essay Contest. The annual contest was established to encourage students to think creatively about the nation’s history and to learn about historical events.

The topic of Keriann’s essay was “Technology’s Impact on the Voyage of Christopher Columbus,” while Jenna’s essay was titled “Celebrating a Century: America’s National Parks.” Each essay was judged on historical accuracy, adherence to the subject, organization of material, interest and originality, spelling, punctuation, grammar and neatness.
