100 Days Smarter

As kindergarten students enrolled at Forest Lake, Mandalay and Wantagh elementary schools entered their classrooms, they proudly displayed T-shirts decorated with 100 items or by dressing up as 100-year-olds in celebration of the first 100 days of the 2020-2021 school year. During the annual celebration, the students were engaged in English language arts, mathematics and art activities that reinforced their concept of the number 100 and their ability to count to 100 by ones, fives and 10s.

“The students have really worked hard over the past several months, and the 100 Day celebration demonstrates the skills they have acquired since the first day of school,” Wantagh Elementary School Principal Dr. Randee Bonagura said.

At all three schools, teachers read various stories relating to the first 100 days of school. Students also participated in activities which included writing about their goals as a 100-year-old, counting to 100 using beads and Unifix cubes and painting colored dots until they counted to 100.
