DAR Essay Conteset

The Jerusalem Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announces the winners of the 2019-2020 DAR American History Essay Contest. The topic for the middle school students was "The Voyage of the Mayflower" and the topic for high school students was "A Sailors Experiences as Part of Christopher Columbus' First Expedition to the America's ". The students in Wantagh Middle and High School are to be especially recognized as this project was entirely voluntary. Judging was based on historical accuracy, adherence to the subject, organization of material, interest, originality, spelling and punctuation, grammar and neatness.

All three first place winning essays have been forwarded to the New York State DAR American History Chairperson for the state competition. The winners will be recognized at a DAR luncheon and a school awards assembly held in May 2020.

2019 - DAR Jerusalem Chapter Annual Luncheon

DAR Jerusalem Chapter Annual Luncheon

On Friday, May 10, 2019 the Jerusalem Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored Emma Caputo, Madeline Rose, Julia DiCianni and Ryan Tullo at their annual luncheon.

At the luncheon, held at the Wantagh Public Library, Emma and Madeline presented their winning American History essays entitled,"The Women's Suffrage Campaign", Julia presented her winning Christopher Columbus essay entitled "Comparing Ship Technology: The Ships Columbus Used Versus Ships of Today" and fifth grader Ryan Tullo presented his essay "What the Flag of the United States of America means to me".

Mrs. Mary Wagner of the Jerusalem Chapter was the master of ceremonies, accompanied by members of the DAR, honoring these wonderful students from the Wantagh School District. This annual event is symbolic of the continuing partnership between the Wantagh School District and the caring members of the Wantagh Community.

Mr. John McNamara, Wantagh Superintendent of Schools; Dr. Marc Ferris, Wantagh Assistant Superintendent for Instruction; Dr. Stephanie Scolieri, Assistant Principal of Wantagh Middle School; Mr. Anthony Ciuffo, Principal of Forest Lake Elementary School; Dr. Christopher Widmann, Supervisor of Social Studies; Mrs. Jennifer Turcinovic, WMS social studies teacher; Mr. Peter Manolakos, WMS social studies teacher; and Mr. Michael Tallarine, WHS social studies teacher were on hand as the young students were recognized for their achievements and presented with gifts from the Chapter.

Good food was served and a great time was had by all. CONGRATULATIONS Students! Wantagh is proud of you.

 


 

Each year the Wantagh School District, in conjunction with the Jerusalem Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, sponsors an essay writing contest. The contest is open to all students who attend both Wantagh Middle and Senior High School. Over the years Wantagh has had the pleasure of having several state level winners.
