SEPTA News & Upcoming Events

Wantagh SEPTA would like to be a resource for you! We offer parent connections, resources, collaboration, advocacy, awareness, scholarships, awards, grants and special events.

We are a district-wide (K-12) PTA that addresses the issues of students whose learning needs may be different than the general population, including those that require the support of Special Education or Related Services (OT/PT/Speech/Resource Room/504).

Membership is open to all and can include parents, spouses, aunts, uncles, grandparents, teachers, students, school administrators, friends–anyone with an interest in the welfare of a child with special needs.

Special MeetingMonday, October 24 at 7:30 pm Special Virtual Meeting with Guest Speaker Kate Swenson (Via Zoom)
Kate Swenson’s world changed forever when her toddler son, Cooper, was diagnosed with severe, nonverbal autism. Cooper is now eleven, with three younger siblings, and Kate shares their day-to-day lives with the community of close to a million that she’s built across her blog, Finding Cooper’s Voice, Instagram, and Facebook page. She shares her family’s full story in Forever Boy: A Mother's Memoir of Autism and Finding Joy (Park Row Books/HarperCollins; Hardcover; April 5, 2022), from the years-long path to getting a diagnosis for Cooper, to the close bond her children now share. This book will speak to all audiences – it’s not only an honest, inspiring journey relatable to any family with autism in their lives, it’s also an eye-opening look for those who don’t.

Research Study

Research being done by local Wantagh High School student Katherine Killian.

Please consider being part of the study.

"Hello! My name is Katherine Killian and I am a current Wantagh High School student. I am enrolled in a class called AP Research where I am conducting my own original study. My focused topic of inquiry is, "What influence does vestibular stimulation, in the form of swinging, have on the heart rate and behavior of children with an autism spectrum disorder in high-stimulus settings?" Due to COVID, I was unable to conduct this study at a sensory gym, so I turned to an alternative way to collect data online. The following form will explain the study, guide you through the procedure, and will ask you to record your child’s data. Anyone diagnosed with ASD and between the ages 5-14 can participate in this study. Please share with anyone that may be interested. If you have any questions feel free to contact me by email."
