Dear Wantagh Community.
It is hard to believe that the new school year is around the corner! The Wantagh faculty and staff are looking forward to welcoming back students to the classroom for the official start of the 2018-2019 school year on Sept. 4.
This school year should prove to be an exciting one, as students will have access to new and expanded programs and many interesting, new courses. The district’s Chromebook initiative will now include the ninth-grade class, and K-grade 5 students will utilize the new Go Math! program. Restructuring of sixth-grade teaming to include block scheduling will provide students with more hands-on science laboratory time and student-centered learning, as well as reading and writing workshop in their English classes. With the alignment of elementary science with the new New York State science standards, students will use exploration as a tool to solve problems, just like scientists.
In addition to our talented staff, the district also welcomes new faces, including high school and middle school social worker Nicole Braitwaithe, elementary guidance counselor Donna Shulman and Director of Facilities Thomas Fucci. Our expanding STEAM program now welcomes K-5 Director Scott Jackson, and Ryan Aliperti has been appointed as humanities/literacy K-5 director. All of our reputable new faculty comes with experience that will surely build upon the district’s stellar academic programs.
The faculty and staff have worked hard over the summer to prepare for the school year. The facilities are in top shape and teachers are ready to engage students in all the district has to offer. I look forward to seeing everyone in September!
