Some information to help you...
BEE book and Homework
We use our B.E.E. books every day in kindergarten to help keep us organized (B.E.E. is an acronym for Bring Everything Every day.) Our B.E.E. books contain many useful resources for your child to assist him/her as s/he completes nightly homework or works on nightly skills. For example, the alphabet chart can be used to practice letter and sound recognition. The 100's chart can be used to practice counting from any given number, skip counting, and number recognition. As the year progresses, I will continually add to it! Please check your child's B.E.E. book EVERY day for notes and classwork that are to be left at home, and remove all notices and work from the day. It would be great if you set aside a few minutes each day to look over the work from the day and let your child "teach" you all s/he has learned! (If the student becomes the teacher what confidence s/he builds!) All completed homework from the night should be put in the folder and brought back to school to hand in the next day. Homework is sent home on Monday with a schedule for the week. Each night's homework is handed in the next day to help our kindergarten students establish good work habits that they will carry with them throughout their years at Forest Lake.
If for any reason, you need to change your child's normal dismissal procedure, you must send a note. Please do NOT rely on email alone as I may not see it before the day is out. Also, please send in a note when your child returns to school after an absence explaining the reason s/he missed school.
We will have snack time every day in the morning before lunch. Please send in a small, healthy snack and a small drink. Please remember to pack snack and lunch separately and label which is which so the children know what to eat at the correct time. Please be sure to put your child's name on their snack/lunch bag as well, to avoid mix ups! Even better, have your child write his/her name on the snack bag!
Please feel free to contact me with any problems or concerns, even something good! You can call, send a note or email. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. If your message is urgent or concerns dismissal, it is best to call the main office so they will get the message immediately. The main office number is (516) 679-6470.
