Family, school and community will join together to meet students' educational needs as well as to provide the skills needed to meet the continuing challenge of life-long learning and responsible citizenship in our rapidly changing society.

  • HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-JOURNALISTS ATTEND PRESS DAY

    High school students enrolled in Peter Kravitz’s Journalism I and II classes were among 300 students who attended Hofstra University’s annual Press Day in December.

  • WANTAGH PRESENTS ‘SCREENAGERS’

    The Wantagh school community gathered for a Dec. 17 screening of the documentary “Screenagers” in the high school auditorium to learn more about the effects of screen time on children and family life. Written by physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston, the award-winning documentary explores struggles over social media, video games and internet addiction and provides insights from authors, psychologists and brain scientists, while offering solutions on how parents can empower their children to find balance in the digital world.

  • GIRLS VOLLEYBALL RECOGNIZED DURING BOE MEETING

    The varsity girls volleyball was officially congratulated for their New York State Class A Championship title by the board of education and central administration during the Dec. 13 public meeting.

  • A COMMUNITY SERENADE

    Members of the high school’s jazz ensemble and chamber orchestra shared the gift of music during a holiday performance for retired teachers who attended December’s Wantagh Retired Teachers holiday meeting at the public library. The student-musicians, under the direction of Jen Alessi and Dina Langer, respectively, performed holiday tunes to the delight of the audience.

  • SENIORS RECEIVE NASSAU ZONE AWARDS

    Wantagh High School seniors Ethan Herman and Samantha Sparta were recipients of the Nassau Zone Award. Sponsored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, this award recognizes one male and one female Nassau County high school senior from each school district who exemplify outstanding scholastic ability, physical education performance and leadership qualities.

  • MELANIE VOLZ NAMED LI YOUNG SCHOLAR OF MATHEMATICS

    Sophomore Melanie Volz was one of 83 students named a Long Island Young Scholar of Mathematics by the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY Old Westbury. Selection places Melanie in the top one-tenth of 1 percent of math students in the grade across Long Island.

  • WANTAGH HS NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTS 89

    Wantagh High School’s National Honor Society inducted 89 new members during a traditional candlelighting ceremony, held in the auditorium on Dec. 4. The evening featured words of wisdom from administrators, musical interludes from the high school’s string chamber ensemble and the singing of the national anthem by Carlo Tobia.

  • WANTAGH HS THEATER PRESENTS ‘CHILDREN OF EDEN’

    A talented cast and crew drew a full house during performances of John Caird’s “Children of Eden,” held in the high school auditorium on Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Under the guidance of play director Heather Naughton, vocal director Jennifer Alessi and choreographer Kim Davis, the cast amazed the audience with the two-act musical with lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

  • SENIORS SIGN NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

    The district is pleased to announce that high school seniors Danielle Carson and Erin Murphy signed national letters of intent to continue playing their sports at the college level. Danielle will play lacrosse at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and Erin Murphy will play soccer at SUNY Buffalo. The district congratulates the student-athletes on this athletic accomplishment and extends best wishes for success.

    Wantagh Theatre proudly presents Stephen Schwartz’s “Children of Eden,” to be held in the Wantagh High School auditorium on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
