•  Friends' Club is a popular program at Forest Lake that seeks to build relationships among children with varying social needs. While the vast majority of children like to have friends, some need extra help and practice in developing their social skills.  Friends' Club is a supervised and structured play experience that matches students with varying delays with appropriate role models, called "buddies".  There is much research demonstrating the benefits of participation for both groups of children.
Buddies are volunteers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades who have demonstrated kind behavior and good social skills.  Buddies share their recess periods one period a week (Fridays) for for four consecutive weeks at which time new buddies are introduced.  Students who volunteer may always elect to become a buddy again later in the year.  It has been our experience that once a student volunteers to participate, they do so again multiple times!
