  • ALL ABOUT SEUSS

    There was an abundance of excitement in kindergarten classrooms at Mandalay Elementary as students celebrated the birthday of iconic author Dr. Seuss. In addition to wearing crazy hats and reading a multitude of Dr. Seuss books, students rotated at fun, Seuss-themed stations on March 8.

  • READING WITH TOWN CLERK SYLVIA CABANA

    Students in world language teacher Virginia Dimuzio’s class at Mandalay enhanced their Spanish listening skills. Guest and Hempstead Town Clerk Sylvia A. Cabana took the opportunity to read Andrés Pi Andreu’s and Kim Amate’s “La Abeja de Más” to the students, a powerful story about a beehive’s cramped working conditions and the serious topics of prejudice and tolerance.

  • TOP NOTES

    The district is pleased to announce that 12 elementary, 13 middle school and 13 high school student-musicians were selected to participate in the Nassau Music Educators Association All-County festivals, held in January at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Selection was based on the students’ individual New York State School Music Association evaluation scores and teacher recommendations, as well as evaluations during solo performances at regional music festivals.

  • CONFIDENCE AND FRIENDSHIP DEVELOP DURING READING BUDDIES

    The Mandalay library was buzzing with the sound of fifth-grade students reading their book of choice out loud to the kindergarten students as part of the school’s Reading Buddies Program. This new program, developed by library media specialist Leova Manbhat, is an initiative to make reading more exciting and enjoyable.

  • GINGERBREAD HOUSES AT MANDALAY

    The kindergarten classrooms at Mandalay wafted with the sweet smell of candy and icing as students decorated gingerbread houses alongside parents and caregivers. The annual activity was a culmination of an English language arts unit on the fictional Gingerbread Man.

  • MANDALAY STUDENTS HOST FOOD DRIVE

    The front lobby of Mandalay Elementary held filled boxes of food collected by students in grades K-5 for the Thanksgiving holiday season. Hosted by the student council, under the direction of Angela Buffalino-Morgan, the students donated their non-perishable food collection to Island Harvest.

  • MANDALAY MILERS RUN ACROSS AMERICA

    Mandalay Elementary School students in Wantagh are collectively running the same amount of miles it would take to reach California from Long Island as part of a physical education unit called the Run Across America Challenge.
