Transportation - Eligibility

The policy of the Wantagh Board of Education regarding transportation of public

and  non-public school students requires that eligibility be determined according

to the distance from the student’s legal residence to the school of attendance.

Transportation is provided as follows:

Kindergarten through Grade 5 — Over 1/2 mile distance

Grades 6 through 8 — Over .88 mile distance

Grades 9 through 12 — Over 1.24 miles distance

According to State law, distance (not hazard or any other factor) is the sole

eligibility criterion. Those desiring transportation to private or parochial

schools must apply in writing on or before April 1 of the preceding

school year. Transportation will be provided to eligible students the following
